Being the largest mammal on Earth, I see the whale as a metaphor for humanity.  Its overwhelming body represents the sum of our individual bodies; its longevity accounts for the passage of time. Many societies have associated whales with the unconscious mind, devilish forces, or deities. This sculpture re-appropriates the animal and infuses it with a new meaning; one which embodies an ever-lasting sense of tragedy and despair. My goal with this work is to translate the dramatic nature of life into a visceral experience.
