Socrates Sculpture Park offers two programs for children and youth to experience hands-on art-making classes. For these free programs, Socrates hires artists who have created and/or exhibited work in the park to develop and lead art-making classes, held in the park’s dedicated education area. Classes are informed by the park’s natural landscape and the individual artist’s subject matter, particular technique, and art-making process. Interaction between participants, other artists working in the park, and the artworks themselves are integral to the learning process.
Summer Outdoor Art-making Workshops are held Monday through Friday, from July 6 – August 14. This program is organized for groups only: neighborhood youth agencies, community groups, summer schools, and day camps are all welcome to register your groups. Pre-registration is required.
Saturday Sculpture Workshops are held every Saturday from May 11 – September 26. This program is organized for kids and their families on a drop-in basis: just show up on any Saturday to participate! No registration necessary.
WEEKDAYS, JULY 6 – AUGUST 14, 2015 | 10 AM – 12 PM & 1 – 3 PM
These free workshops offer diverse groups of children from neighborhood youth agencies, community groups, summer schools, and day camps the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities inspired by exhibitions at the park. Artists run two sessions of their workshop each day of the week and teach children fundamental and contemporary art-making techniques. Due to high demand, groups can only sign up for one workshop. Pre-registration and scheduling is required and will be on a first come, first served basis.
To register your group, please fill out a 2015 Summer Outdoor Art-Making Workshop Request Form. Note: cancellations within 48 hours of workshop date will result in a cancellation charge.
