Coastal Classroom

JULY 5 – 29, 2016

The Coastal Classroom summer groups program is a City Parks Foundation program for rising 5th-9th grade students. Coastal Classroom runs during the month of July in Hallet’s Cove and adjacent Socrates Sculpture Park. Schools and community-based organizations are invited to schedule four in-depth sessions on marine ecology, waterfront recreational activities and the importance of preserving the waters surrounding our city.  Groups meet once a week for 2.5 hours of programming. STEM-based, hands-on activities coupled with recreational opportunities such as rowing and fishing allow students to experience our waterways as their own backyard and to learn how to protect them. These outdoor field experiences fully engage students in summer fun and learning and help to raise awareness about one of NYCs most important assets – our waterfront parks!
