Gigantic Sculptures Made Small
Saturday May 21 | 12 – 3 PM
Gigantic Sculptures Made Small with Linda Ganjian
Imagine you were given the opportunity to design a gigantic sculpture that would take up the entire park. What would you do? Would you “glam” it up, making a shiny glittery disco ball on a pedestal, or would you build an elegant skyscraper with a playground on every floor. Using an assemblage approach, we will realize that sculpture on a smaller scale, as a model. We will start with a cardboard base with the outline and landscape of the park printed on it. Then we will let our imaginations run wild. We will use cardboard, paper, pipe cleaners, fabric and trim, and all sorts of odds and ends to realize the unrealizable.
Saturday Sculpture Workshops are offered to kids, ages 5-13, and their families. Workshops take place every Saturday from May 9 – September 26; they are free and offered in the park’s education area on a drop-in basis. Participants work with a different artist each Saturday, exploring innovative art mediums and a variety of subject matter.
