GAINSBOURG: A HEROIC LIFE / France (Rain Date)
WEDNESDAY JULY 15, 2015 | WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 26, 2015
Due to inclement weather, the July 15th screening has been postponed to August 26th.
The life and loves of French pop star Serge Gainsbourg are reimagined by comic book artist Joann Sfar, beginning with his childhood in Nazi-occupied Paris, through his wild and crazy years in the ‘50s and ‘60s as a singer-songwriter and lover of some of the world’s most glamourous women (Bardot, Jane Birkin, beatnik icon Juliette Gréco). The film features many of the musician’s greatest hits, as well a giant puppet alter-ego who personifies his worst proclivities. (Note: Due to some nudity, this film is not recommended for children.)
2010, 122 minutes. Directed by Joann Sfar.
Programmed by Film Forum.
ROBIN AIGNER, a founding member of Brooklyn’s Antique-Garde, will perform original engaging and emotive history vignettes on guitar and tenor ukelele. Taking her cues from 1930s novelty tunes, old-time folk, mid-century country-and-western, and Eastern European traditions, her unique sound has been described as, “witty, vintage-sounding tunes with dashes of klezmer and swing,” by Time Out New York.
Meanwhile, CREPES TRUCK will be serving up delicious crepes to round out this evening of French culture.
