Rivers and Tides (Germany / UK)

WEDNESDAY JULY 27, 2016 |  Pre-screening performance begins at 7PM

Rivers and Tides (Germany / UK)
Directed by Thomas Riedelsheimer; 2001, 90 mins.

A fascinating, visually intoxicating portrait of British earthworks artist Andy Goldsworthy, who uses twigs, grass, mud, ice, water, leaves, stones – all things natural – to fashion delicate labyrinthine objects that transform over a period of hours or days, or self-destruct within moments of reaching their pinnacle of perfection. In Nova Scotia we see him literally biting pieces of ice to make them fit; he’s overjoyed as brilliant sun backlights his icicle-artwork, giving it an otherworldly glow, and, of course, melting it simultaneously. “Ravishingly beautiful.” – Stephen Holden, The New York Times

Programmed by Film Forum.
