Anti-Flare, 2011Wood, metal, foam, concrete24' × 2' × 2'

Examining the intricate relationship between illusory and lived experience, this sculpture mimics the phenomena of an optical flare through a large-scale, tantalizingly polished plastic form. Once considered a flaw in early photography, the optical flare has become a signifier of authenticity in CGI and digital photography. Installed within the natural Park setting, this sculpture conflates the real landscape with an optical phenomenon.
