Last Man Standing, 2006Steel, cement, paint13' × 10' × 10'

Part of an ongoing series of works that explore themes of masculinity, this is a memorial to an inherently flawed archetype of American manhood that is modeled on road side attractions that might lure tourists for a photo opportunity. The gift shop was employed as a companion to the giant stump serving as a performance space and commercial venue for the marketing of T-shirts and miniatures. When activated, the artist attends the booth in his pink mountian man outfit, playing the character that has inspired the monument.
