Susurrus is a playful dance collaboration by Danny Johnston and Cassie Mey with guest performer Terry Hempfling, within the Socrates Sculpture Park tree grove. Tactile exchange with trees, lawn, and each other are means of connecting earthward within the rhythm of the urban landscape. The dance also invokes imagery of the subconscious through an abstracted, mini water ballet in three silver wading pools placed throughout the grove. Suggestive of a spiraling journey, Susurrus invites the audience to experience the subtle layering of self in relationship to the “natural” and “man-made” environs of the park.
