Untitled (Brina Thurston)

A visit to Socrates involves the element of discovery, and this installation capitalizes on our sense of adventure and outer borough exploration. It skillfully mimics a familiar New York City transit icon — the subway entrance — and beckons with promise of convenient transport. Even on close inspection, it is remarkably detailed in its replication of the familiar passageway, but as the viewer approaches, it becomes immediately apparent that entry is not possible.
