Off-site: Fact of the Matter

Fact of the Matter is on view at 1285 Avenue of the Americas
Socrates Sculpture Park presents nine sculptors in its first Manhattan presentation in over two decades: Fact of the Matter is a special exhibition that explores the intimate and, at times, difficult relationship that is forged between material and artist. Fact of the Matter brings together nine sculptors, including newly created artworks specifically for this exhibition, showcasing the work of: Jarrod Beck, Chakaia Booker, Mark di Suvero, Tony Feher, Hugh Hayden, Jeffry Mitchell, Richard Nonas, Alyson Shotz, and Ursula von Rydingsvard.
Despite a range of backgrounds and experience — some of the participating artists are at the start of their careers, while others have been internationally recognized for decades — each has developed an intense dialogue and relationship with a material muse, whether it be steel, plastic, ceramic, feathers, rubber, or wood. Each artist in Fact of the Matter has also presented work at Socrates Sculpture Park and in this way, reflects the organization’s rich history and ongoing commitment to sculpture.
Fact of the Matter is sponsored by 1285 Avenue of the Americas Art Gallery, in partnership with Jones Lang LaSalle, as a community-based public service.
Curated by John Hatfield, Executive Director, with Elissa Goldstone, Exhibition Program Manager at Socrates Sculpture Park.
