About the Exhibition
Stop by the Park’s education studio, ‘Sticks,’ this weekend to experience the exhibition ‘Of Nightmares & Fairytales’ featuring remarkable work by local high school students participating in our 2020-2021 Socrateens art-making program: Christopher Bisram, Alexia Dias, Michela Farella, Sohit Gurung, Rafia Mazumder, Kate Panasci, Jessica Reynoso Sanchez, & Trinity Zou
For the exhibition, each 2020-2021 Socrateen has created a sculptural project that incorporates soundscapes they produced while the city was in lockdown. Their projects explore complex issues ranging from responses to the Covid-19 pandemic, to inter-personal relationships and body image, to explorations of the natural world and fairy tales.
About Socrateens
Led by Socrates Director of Education, Douglas Paulson, Socrateens is a year-long experimental art-making program for a small group of teens selected from NYC high schools. Meeting weekly, the Socrateens work closely together to develop sculpture-making, drawing, performance, and photo/video skills. The program also includes visits to artist studios, museums, and galleries. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the 2020-21 Socrateens met in a hybrid of virtual online classes and in-person sessions in the Park’s outdoor education studios.
