SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 2018 • 1 – 3PM

Join Artist Fellow Nancy Nowacek on Saturday, November 3rd for #ResilienceTraining: an activation of her project Maneuver for The Socrates Annual 2018 exhibition.

Manuever is a ten-ton sculpture composed of 400 brightly-colored sandbags. The piece is inspired by the complex and overwhelming political, environmental, and economic crises that affect New Yorkers – and how these issues can both unite and divide us.

In its current state Maneuver exists as a boundary wall dividing the park into two halves. For the public activation of the work, visitors will assist Nowacek in re-configuring Maneuver into a more protective and inclusive form.

The artist considers the physical difficulty of the activation akin to training for the endurance required to effect change. The community organizing aspect of the challenge is also important – after all, ten tons of change can’t happen without the collective power of many hands!

All are welcome to participate!

FREE. NO RSVP REQUIRED.
