The festivities include a short dance performance programmed by artist Alva Mooses for her piece, ‘Se entra bailando’ at 4:30pm. Performed by Sandra Soto and accompanied by violinist Sita Chay, the dance performance is based on the ‘Danza de los Viejitos’ (Dance of the Little Old Men) from the Purépecha region in Michoacán, Mexico. The dance is traditionally performed by four male danzantes representing fire, water, earth, and air. ‘Danza de los Viejitos’ originated in pre-Hispanic times as an offering to the Old God, Grandfather Sun, and to the four Purépecha regions. The dance later became a critique and protest against colonization by Spain, while also celebrating the resilience and strength of the Purépecha communities.

Delicious Colombian food will be available for purchase during the opening from vendor, My Carretta!
