The 2019-2020 Socrateens, Excerpt from the ‘Monuments Decoder’ ‘zine, 2020

About

The final part the ‘MONUMENTS NOW’ exhibition, ‘The Next Generation,’ goes on view Saturday, October 10, 2020. ‘The Next Generation‘ looks to the future with a multi-faceted project collectively realized by local high school students participating in the Park’s arts education program, Socrateens.

Facilitated by the Park’s Lead Educator, Douglas Paulson, Socrateens is a year-long experimental art program for 10 high school students selected through an application process. Participants receive a monthly artist’s stipend of $100.

For ‘MONUMENTS NOW,’ the 2019-2020 Socrateens collaborated on a zine titled ‘Monuments Decoder,’ which you can read for free online HERE! A limited run of printed zine copies will also be publicly available on-site at the Park.

In addition, the 2019-2020 Socrateens created a monument sculpture, ‘What’s Missing,’ that goes on view alongside the 2020 Artist Fellows’ monument projects and Jeffrey Gibson, Paul Ramírez Jonas, and Xaviera Simmons‘ respective monument installations.
