Plankton ->fuel->plastic->rubbish: Taking my plastics back to the fuel drum, 2008

    Plastic water bottles, oil drums

    Each 22 1/2" x 22 1/2" x 34 1/2", overall dimensions variable

The artist creates delicate sea creatures out of discarded plastic bottles. She houses different configurations within oil drums, which are lit from the interior and sealed with a layer of plexiglas. The drums are slightly buried in the ground. The artist achieves a buried seascape, which lends an ethereal quality to commonplace materials. She highlights a geological timeline of sea life becoming a source of fossil fuel for consumption and eventually being used in the production of bottled water. By recreating these creatures, she seeks to reclaim the material.
